Updates...

So I called a few places today for information. We are considering renting a limo for the day of the wedding, and after I got some information we decided that we still had to think about it for a while. It is extremely expensive! At the same time, we need to book asap, because there isn't much left in the way of vehicles for our wedding day.

I also finally got in touch with a store that I found in London that sells and rents centrepieces and decor. I had found a place that rented some things, but their quality wasn't the best, and there was no option to buy. This place has things for sale or rent, so we can buy the cheaper items (like centrepieces) and rent the large items that we don't want to own or give away.

Also, I'm finally getting all my bridesmaids together for dress selection and ordering on November 10th. I'm really looking forward to it because it's the first real wedding event. I mean, I've bought my dress and we've had our engagement photos taken, but this involves people from the wedding party, so it's very exciting. We'll order the dresses, and then go back to my parents' house for lunch. It's the first time that Nancy will be meeting anyone, so that's very exciting for me!

Finally, we are working on selecting the photos that we want to have professionally edited by the photographer. We are excited to see how they will turn out, and we'll post one or two on here when they are done.

"The Wedding Dress" - poem by Marcia Cook

Everywhere is white perfection

amid shattered expectations

as women step into bridal shoppes.

A different language floats through the air:

full A-line tulle and lace sweetheart,

learning together, strangers become friends.

One by one, elimination begins as

women plunge head-first into love

lost in fabrics that silence the world.

A swish of tufts and rough hot beads

uncomfortable, heavy. Beautiful.

Princesses emerge from blue-grey curtains

One dress sends shivers, a fluttery feeling.

Fate steps in with goosebumps and butterflies

women beam and giggle with sweaty palms.

This is the one. Laughter becomes tears.

enveloped in their new-found loves, women

smile in the mirror with anticipation.

Stag and Doe Announcement!

Hey everyone!

We have finally found a place and booked a date for our Stag and Doe. It will be held on

Saturday, March 29 2008

in London at a place called Connolly Hall (on First Street).

More details to follow, including time, cost, etc. But we can tell you now that my dad's band "Scenario" will be playing a few songs and there will also be dj music for dancing. We will have FANTABULOUS prizes and lots of booze and food, and promise that it will be the party of the year...

...well, besides the wedding of course!
;)
Cheers!

Engagement Photos

This past Saturday, Barry and I had our engagement pictures taken at Waterloo Park. We decided to do our engagement photos there because it is a place we often visited after I moved to Waterloo, and it's very nice. We had a great time posing for shots, and our photographer took a ton of pictures! It was sort of strange posing for these types of pictures in public, and it sure gave us a sense of what it will be like to have our pictures taken after the wedding! It was a fun day, and we can't wait to edit them and print some out!

We decided to post just a few here so you can see what types of thing to expect. There were tons of great pictures, and we'll save the rest of them for later so you can still be surprised. It was cool to have our first official wedding thing done!

Location Location Location

Back in April, we booked Pine Knot Golf and Country Club in Dorchester for our wedding ceremony and reception. The ceremony will be outside and the reception inside, with a huge outdoor deck for mingling outdoors as well. This place was not only the best choice for us economically, it was also the nicest place we looked at BY FAR. Even the golf club in North London couldn't compare!

Our Engagement

This is a photo taken of Barry and I right after Barry proposed. He took me out for dinner to celebrate his birthday and popped the question right after we ordered dessert. I had been visiting my family in London and had taken pictures of my new nephew, John so I had my camera with me to show Barry the pictures I had taken.

I was completely shocked! I certainly was not expecting a proposal, especially on Barry's birthday.

After dinner, we came home and called everyone to tell them the good news. My family and friends were just as shocked and surprised as I was! Some of Barry's friends and family already knew, and his mom was not surprised at all. She said she was expecting something after our last visit to St. Thomas.

So this first blog about our engagement is an introduction to our wedding blog. There will be a lot of blogs at first, in order to update everyone about the details we have planned so far. We will try to update everyone as time goes on with new posts about our ongoing plans.
